morton’s fork

Roads that've splayed my way

A fork in the tongue of a crooked snake;
    A fork of lightning in the dusky autumn sky;
        A fork to winnow chaff from wheat to bake;
            A fork driven in a dish of shepherd’s pie;

            A fork to tune an upright playing astray;
        A fork for a bothered wheelbarrow’s tire;
    A fork in the roads that’ve splayed my way;
A fork in the river that swept me by her.
