morton’s fork

Murphy's less fatalistic cousin.

A fork in the tongue of a crooked snake;
    A fork of lightning in the dusk-autumn sky;
        A fork to winnow chaff from wheat to bake;
            A fork-driven dish of shepherd’s pie;

            A fork to tune the keys playing astray;
        A fork for the burdened wheelbarrow’s tire;
    A fork in the roads spread-splaying my way;
A fork in the river that swept me by her.
